Hamburg Süd is resuming its weekly direct service from Peru’s Port of Paita to Philadelphia to accommodate the mango and grape season in South America.
“With a transit time of 11 days, the service provides exporters in Peru and U.S. importers a premium product designed specifically with these sensitive cargoes in mind,” Hamburg Süd said in Wednesday’s announcement.
Hamburg Süd launched the service for the South American mango and grape season last year. It said connections to the U.S. Gulf Coast and other ports along the U.S. East Coast as well as Europe are available through the transshipment hub in Cartagena.
The latest reduction in average east-west contract rates is the largest quarterly fall since the end of 2016.
Maersk Line — Safmarine WAF6 has increased the vessel count from seven to eight, which increased the service capacity 20 percent or 4,966 TEUs.
