UPS has named Philippe Gilbert president of supply chain solutions, effective this month.
Gilbert, who will be based at UPS’ global headquarters in Atlanta, is also joining the UPS Management Committee, the company’s senior-most leadership group.
Gilbert most recently served as regional CEO of the Americas for DB Schenker Logistics and was based in Miami. Prior to that, he was regional CEO for West Europe from 2013 to 2015 and was based in Paris.
From 2005 to 2013, Gilbert served as executive vice president for GEODIS Wilson, the freight management division of the GEODIS Group.
He has also held leadership roles in the logistics space with Saga S.A., Circle International and Eagle Global Logistics.

Imperial Logistics International has appointed Sandro Knecht to the newly created position of chief commercial officer. Knecht will be based in Zurich.
He most recently worked at CEVA Logistics, where he spent seven years in senior management positions, most recently as executive vice president of global supply chain solutions, and a member of the Global Business Development Board.
Prior to that, he spent 17 years at Panalpina World Transport, where he held several senior positions.

The Containerization & Intermodal Institute (CII) has named Lisa LoManto Aurichio executive director, succeeding Barbara Spector Yeninas, who served as executive director since 1985 and has now been named senior adviser.
Aurichio will continue her position as president of BSY Associates Inc. (BSYA), the international marketing communications and special event agency founded by Yeninas in 1974. BSYA will continue as the CII secretariat. Aurichio will work in tandem with Yeninas, who remains as BSYA chairman, to oversee and execute programs and projects for international trade and transportation leaders.

Nigeria, South Africa and Egypt make up over 50 percent of Africa’s cumulative GDP.

The U.S. international trade goods and services deficit was $49.4 billion in February, down $1.8 billion from January's revised figures, according to U.S. Census Bureau and the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis.
