Marco Poggio, managing director of TOUAX Container Leasing Pte. Ltd. (TCL), has been elected chairman of the Institute of International Container Lessors (IICL) for 2019.
He succeeds Katherine McCabe, president of Beacon Intermodal Leasing LLC.
Poggio (pictured) has been with TOUAX since 2010 and is in charge of all TCL leasing, operations, resale and trading activities and finance. He has more than 20 years of experience in the logistics and transportation industry.
“In the current evolving market, the role of the IICL is key to make sure that industry standards and best practices meet the new requirements globally,” Poggio said.
IICL’s board also elected Robert Sappio, chief executive officer of SeaCube Container Leasing Ltd., as first vice president; William J. Shea Jr., chairman and CEO of Direct ChassisLink Inc., as second vice president; and Brian M. Sondey, chairman and chief executive officer of Triton International Ltd., as treasurer.

The Alabama State Port Authority has announced four promotions within the senior management team in the wake of recent and pending retirements.
Linda Paaymans was promoted from senior vice president of finance to chief financial officer. She has more than 35 years of financial, IT, procurement, planning and production management experience in both the private and public sectors. Since 2008, Larry Downs, the recently retired CFO, has mentored Paaymans to take the reins of the authority’s financial services division.
Danny Barnett was promoted to vice president of human resources. He is a 43-year port veteran and has served in supervisory and management positions in general cargo and bulk operations, billing and HR. He also served 23 years in the Alabama Army National Guard, including a tour in Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Bill Inge was promoted to vice president of general cargo and central services. He has more than 38 years of experience in maritime transportation and terminal operations. He joined the port authority in 2007 from Dole Fresh Fruit.
Parrish Lawler was promoted to director of trade and development. Lawler, who joined the port authority in 2014, has worked in operations, customer service and sales management for companies like Inchcape, C.H. Robinson and Norton Lilly. He also oversaw railroad sales for GC Railway.

When trade tensions rise, there are no winners, only losers, especially among developing countries.

BlueWater Reporting’s database shows 57 container services operate on the Asia to North America (U.S. and Canada) trade, with the OCEAN Alliance operating 19 services, THE Alliance operating 14 services, and the 2M Alliance operating 10 services (two of which are jointly operated with ZIM).
