The supply chain design software provider LLamasoft has acquired a suite of transportation and inventory solutions from IBM. LLamasoft did not disclose the full terms of the sale.
The acquisition encompasses IBM’s LogicTools suite, which includes LogicNet Plus, and its Inventory and Product Flow Analyst and Transportation Analyst products. LLamasoft has also purchased the related technology and support teams.
Transportation Analyst provides vehicle routing and shipment planning to optimize utilization of transportation assets. It is designed to create optimal transportation plans for multisite, multitier distribution networks. LogicTools Transportation Analyst uses routes, shipment consolidation and backhauls to optimize the use of available capacity.
LogicNet Plus is a supply chain network optimization and supply chain design tool intended to help companies evaluate their current supply chain network and determine where and when to add new facilities.
The inventory and product flow solution is designed to aid supply chain inventory management and optimization for manufacturers, retailers and distributors by helping them “right-size” inventory levels to meet fluctuating supply and demand.
“This strategic acquisition further solidifies LLamasoft’s status as the clear global leader in supply chain design technology,” said LLamasoft founder, president and chief executive officer Donald Hicks. “We’re incredibly excited to have the opportunity to serve LogicTools customers and welcome them into the LLamasoft user community. Supply chain modeling is a must-have capability to survive and thrive in rapidly changing global market conditions.”
American Shipper wrote about supply chain modeling and LLamasoft in its November 2014 cover story.
I recall that when I started at the port in 2003, all the excitement was around the biggest ship to ever call at the port and it was 8,000 TEUs. Just 15 years ago, that was a big ship, Now they’re talking ships that are 20,000--22,000 TEU.

On a typical day in FY2018, CBP seized 4,657 pounds of narcotics, $290,411 in undeclared or illicit currency, and $3.7 million worth of products with intellectual property rights violations.
