“Severe congestions” are happening at a Rotterdam terminal, with delays of up to two days, according to the shipping line Oldenburg-Portugiesische Dampfschiffs-Rhederei.
In a press release Wednesday, the company said congestion at the Delta Terminal is being caused by the late arrivals of deep sea vessels, system outages and labor shortages. OPDR said the current situation will last for at least another month or two.
“The above mentioned congestions had and will have an effect on our schedule integrity and cause extra costs,” OPDR said. “As a consequence, and in order to limit the damage to all our clients not shipping via Delta, we reserve the right to omit the Delta terminals on short notice in order to maintain our schedules and to apply a Delta congestion surcharge (if necessary).”
OPDR added that it is monitoring the situation closely.
