Virgin Atlantic has added an Airbus A340-600 flight between London and Johannesburg, increasing cargo capacity during South Africa’s peak season.
The additional plane is expected to remain on the route through the end of the 2013-2014 season.
Exports to Johannesburg have been a bright spot in a quiet cargo year, said Nick Jones, head of sales for Virgin Atlantic Cargo. While perishables routing from South Africa have slowed, Virgin still sees heavy flows of auto parts, pharmaceuticals and mining equipment.
“The extra capacity offered by the Airbus has enabled us to support customers moving goods to the U.K., Europe and the United States,” Jones said in a statement.
