VT Halter on Saturday launched a new ship, Marjorie C,
at its shipyard in Pascagoula; it is the second ship it has built for Pasha Hawaii.
Pasha has said the ship is expected to enter service later this year, carrying containers and ro/ro cargo between Southern California and Hawaii, where today it operates the ro/ro ship Jean Anne
The Marjorie C
will have the ability to carry 1,500 TEU above and under deck, as
well as vehicles and over high and wide cargo on 10 workable decks. The
692-foot-long vessel will have a vehicle shipping capacity of 2,750
units. The stern quarter ramp will be 39.4 feet wide and 20.7 feet high, and
rated at up to 250 metric tons.

When steel cutting began for the new ship
three years ago, Pasha said the new ship's base price was $144 million and that it had an option agreement for the construction of a third vessel with a base price of $137 million.
