UTi Worldwide has installed ocean charter service centers in Amsterdam, Johannesburg, Houston and Singapore, all "major centers" for the oil and gas industry, the company said.
UTi is also hoping to get business in the mining and large-project construction fields. Houston will serve as the global hub for the program, which seeks to "coordinate the fastest possible response to energy, mining and construction industries clients, which is an important market segment for the company," according to a press release.
Bruce Hulings, Uti's global vice president of Energy, Mining and Projects, said, "UTi's EMP team members have specific skill sets to analyze and drive the execution of specialized services that include Heavy and Break Bulk transportation services, including cargo and project supervision. Our regional centers will help UTi's local offices offer seamless implementations by providing guidance and oversight."
