U.S. intermodal continues growth charge

   U.S. intermodal container rail traffic rose 4.5 percent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2012, according to the latest figures from the Association of American Railroads Time Indicators Report .    Volume reached 2.5 million containers in the January-March period, though the growth dipped slightly in March, to 3.5 percent, on volume of 928,350 containers.    The AAR said March was the 28th consecutive year-on-year monthly increase for intermodal rail traffic.
