UP invests in Midwest infrastructure
Union Pacific officials said the railroad is investing $17.5 million
to replace railroad ties, install rock ballast and renew crossing
surfaces in Minnesota and Iowa.
The work, which is expected to be
complete by the middle of July, will strengthen the rail line between
Butterfield, Minn., and Mason City, Iowa.
“In addition to helping
move our customers’ goods safely and efficiently, our investments
support communities by reducing traffic congestion, facilitating
industrial development and promoting economic expansion,” Donna Kush,
Union Pacific’s vice president of Public Affairs in the Northern Region,
said in a statement.
UP officials said the railroads investments over the past six years have totaled $21.6 billion.
