The Port of Seattle Authority's commission this week approved a 25-year plan that seeks to grow traffic at the city's port and airport and create 100,000 new jobs while reducing the port’s environmental footprint.
The port authority said its "Century Agenda
" seeks to grow annual container volume to more than 3.5 million TEUs. Last year the port handled 2,033,535 TEUs.
The agency, which also operates the Seattle-Tacoma International Airpor
t, wants air cargo volume to triple to 750,000 metric tons and double the number of international flights and destinations.
Enviornmental goals include reducing air pollutant emissions and carbon emissions by 50 percent from 2005 levels and aircraft-related carbon emissions at Sea-Tac by 25 percent. - Chris Dupin
