Ryder System announced Monday the launch of a new business line aimed at serving the domestic oil and gas sector, which is on a growth tear associated with development of major shale fields throughout the country.
The perfection of new technologies and deep horizontal drilling methods has enabled energy companies to productively extract oil and gas locked in shale rock formations, turning the United States into the world's largest gas producer and soon a net exporter of oil.
The Miami-based logistics and transportation provider said its dedicated contract carriage, transportation management, fleet leasing and rental services are well-suited to meet the energy sector's requirements for specialized equipment and product handling. Ryder said it also provides flatbed service on major lanes throughout Texas, Louisiana and Oklahoma.
Ryder has extensive experience providing logistics support for the oil and gas industry. The company said it manages all port deliveries to support 18 offshore drilling rigs in the Gulf of Mexico for a major oil company, with 61 dedicated drivers and other contractors. It also manages procurement, storage, transportation and tracking for an equipment and supplies provider, moving more than 75,000 truckloads per year.
