Panalpina is realigning its regional hierarchy, adding a fourth region in January and announcing the appointment of a chief commercial officer, Karl Weyeneth.
The new MEAC region will consist of the Middle East, Africa and India, which until now, had been part of the European region.
“On the one hand this will reduce the complexities associated with the current setup,” according to a Panalpina press release. “On the other hand it will make it easier to tap into the many business opportunities in the fast growing markets between Port Elizabeth in South Africa and Sakhalin in Russia.”
Peter Triebel, who has worked at Panalpina since 1999, has been tapped to run the MEAC region. Triebel, who is currently based in London where he serves as area manager for Northwest Europe, will move to Dubai for the new position.
Weyeneth has served as Panalpina’s chief operating officer since 2008. With his ascension to the new post, his former COO position will be dissolved.
