Panalpina has unveiled a weekly, non-stop service linking San Juan, Puerto Rico, to Luxembourg using Boeing 747-400 freighters flown by Cargolux.
According to Panalpina, this is the first regular freighter service to San Juan International Airport.
With the service, the company will target pharmaceutical and healthcare shippers that have had to ship goods first to a town 80 miles away before having their goods loaded onto freighters.
“Now our healthcare customers can put their temperature-sensitive goods on a cargo-only aircraft right on their doorstep. Not only do we cut out an 80 mile road leg of the journey, we also ensure the best possible control on the ground and in the air from door-to-door,” Matthias Frey, global head of Panalpina’s air freight network, said in a statement.
The company plans to expand “by setting up similar first-time freighter services around the world” with the help of Cargolux, according to Panalpina.
