The global container terminal operator PSA International said over the weekend it has broken ground on a new terminal in Dammam it is jointly developing with the Public Investment Fund of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
The joint venture, called Saudi Global Ports (SGP), will construct the second terminal at King Abdul Aziz Port in Dammam, the largest Persian Gulf port in Saudi Arabia and a key gateway port in the Arabian Gulf.
Dammam is the closest port to Saudi Arabia’s capital, Riyadh, with the terminal to be linked by an existing railway network and highways to the rest of the country.
When the SGP Terminal is fully developed, it will have a quay length of 1,200 meters and 12 quay cranes, with a design capacity of 1.8 million TEUs per year. - Eric Johnson
