APL Logistics and Con-way Freight have extended their OceanGuaranteed less-than-containerload service from Asia to North America to Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia.
The service, which is now offered at 14 origin ports in Asia, provides delivery in North America on a predetermined date. APL Logistics said its APLGuaranteed service for full containerloads will also be offered from Jakarta.
The service was recently expanded to the southern China port of Xiamen, as well as Fuzhou, which is linked to the OceanGuaranteed network by truck.
“We’re gratified by the growth of guaranteed service throughout Asia,” said APL Logistics President Jim McAdam. “”And we’re pleased that the partnership underlying the service remains strong.”
APL Logistics and Con-way started OceanGuaranteed in 2006 as the world’s first guaranteed shipping service. APLGuaranteed for full containerloads was introduced two years later.
The services are designed to provide shipments greater delivery than traditional ocean service, but at a lower cost than air transport. APL Logistics said the on-time performance of OceanGuaranteed has remained at 99 percent since its inception.
At origin, guaranteed cargo is given priority to space and equipment. Freight is top-stowed on ships to ensure first-off discharge at the port of arrival in North America. Shipments are then quickly moved into the partner network for delivery to the customers’ door and to more than 45,000 zipcodes in the continental United States, Canada and Mexico.
The companies said the service is the first of its kind for the growing Indonesian market. - Eric Johnson
