The New York Shipping Association, the International Longshoremen’s Association and American Legion will hold a job fair focused on hiring honorably discharged veterans for port jobs in the Port of New York and New Jersey.
The NYSA and ILA have said that half the new jobs being created for longshoremen and checkers in the port will be filled by veterans, but they have been criticized recently at the slow pace they have been added to the workforce by the Waterfront Commission of New York Harbor.
The event will be held May
28 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Maher Terminal
main office building located at 1210 Corbin St., Elizabeth, NJ.
Pre-registration is preferred; to register email
Veterans interested in attending need to bring copies of a valid driver’s license, DD-214 that shows type of discharge (or equivalent for National Guard/Reserve), resume and a completed application (obtained upon registration).
