The liner carrier Hamburg Süd said Tuesday it has set an objective to reduce its CO2
emissions from owned and chartered container vessels by 26 percent.
The line is targeting the reduction by 2020, and said it would seek to reach the goal by investing in more energy-efficient ships, chartering in cleaner vessels, and increasing its average vessel size.
“With the self-imposed cut in CO2
emissions we now intend to go a step further and make our environmental commitment clear for all to follow," said Ottmar Gast, chairman of the executive board of Hamburg Süd. "At the same time, we are confident that the measurable results will enable us to identify further optimization potential in the future.”
