Jeffrey N. Shane, well-known transportation attorney and former official at the U.S. Department of Transportation, has been appointed general counsel for the International Air Transport Association, effective April 2.
He will be based at IATA’s headquarters in Montreal.
Shane has been a partner at the law firm Hogan Lovells since 2008. Prior to that he served in the Bush administration as the undersecretary of transportation for policy from 2003-2008. In his role, Shane supervised economic regulation of aviation as well as U.S. international aviation relations. During his tenure the U.S. signed an Open Skies agreement with the European Union.
During previous stints at DOT, Shane served as assistant secretary for policy and international affairs. He also was deputy assistant secretary for transportation affairs at the State Department.
He is a recipient of a lifetime achievement award in commercial aviation from Aviation Week & Space Technology magazine.
Port Corpus Christi promoted Ruben C. Medina to director of business development.
Medina joined the port in 2009 as deputy director for business development. Before that, he worked as a consultant for Marine Terminals (Ports America) in Oakland developing new business in Latin America. He also worked 27 years for Transportacion Maritima Mexicana, an international container/bulk cargo and car carrier shipping company.
Globe Express Services has appointed Christopher Slotten to senior vice president and chief commercial officer, effective March 1.
He will be based at the company’s headquarters in Charlotte, N.C.
Slotten joins GES after 12 years at UTi Worldwide, where he most recently served as region vice president of sales and marketing for the Americas region.
Yusen Logistics (Americas) has hired Brian Paolillo as regional sales director to lead the eastern region transportation sales organization.
Paolillo was previously with Pacer International, where he worked as regional vice president for the eastern region, overseeing Pacer’s commercial strategy and sales force. Prior to that, he worked for Hub Group as the northeast region area vice president, running sales, operations, and customer service.
Rancho Cucamonga, Calif.-based DSW Distribution Centers has named Chris Thiel to vice president and general manager, and Branndon Coelho as information technology manager.
DSW is a privately-owned warehousing and supply management company serving the food, beverage, pharmaceutical and consumer packaged goods industries.
Growers Express, Salinas, Calif.-based shipper of fresh fruits and vegetables, has promoted Merritt Bruce to vice president of sales.
He joined the company in 1990 and most recently served as director of national accounts.
Jack Summerville has been appointed senior vice president of corporate business development for AmeriQuest Business Services, a business process outsourcing company.
He was previously vice president of carrier services and vice president of financial services for AmeriQuest Transportation Services. Before joining AmeriQuest, he worked in the construction and transportation industries with RDO Equipment Co., Budget Truck Rental, and Ryder Systems.
