The American Highway Users Alliance has selected Bob Schwarz to be director of federal and state affairs.
He previously served as executive vice president of Peter Pan Bus Lines.
The coalition, which includes the U.S. Chamber of Commerce and the American Trucking Associations, advocates for investments in surface transportation to improve transportation efficiency.
Simpsonville, S.C.-based logistics services company Sunland Distribution has hired Elijah Ray as its executive vice president of client solutions.
Ray has more than 25 years in the logistics management field.
Sunland also appointed Bill Gates to board chairman.
Gates began his logistics career in 1988 working for Standard Corp. and was chief executive officer of the company at the time of its acquisition. He retired from Standard in 2011.
Tom Weinberg will serve as chairman of the Canaveral Port Authority board of commissioners for 2013.
The former chief of staff for former Florida Sen. Mel Martinez was elected unanimously to the position.
Also elected were attorney Jerry Allender as vice chairman and Cocoa citrus grower Frank Sullivan as secretary/treasurer. Attorney John H. Evans begins his first term on the board. Also serving will be Merritt Island auto dealership owner Bruce Deardoff, the immediate past chairman.
Samuel Shapiro & Co., a Baltimore-based customs broker and freight forwarder, promoted Corey Wagner to regional director of sales at its Decatur, Ga. branch.
Wagner came to Shapiro in 2011 as an intern for the sales and marketing department.
