Descartes Systems Group, a provider of on-demand and software-as-a-service logistics software, has acquired Infodis B.V., a Netherlands-based provider of SaaS transportation management solutions.
The purchase was an all-cash deal worth about $3.7 million.
Infodis provides transportation management services specifically for the European markets with their individual logistics requirements, covering both inbound and outbound transportation. The company said it processes more than 5 million shipments from Europe with a focus on Europe-Asia Pacific shipping.
Edward Ryan, chief commercial officer at Descartes, said the purchase gives it more European expertise and functionality in its transportation suite as well as expanding support to more European and Asia-Pacific carriers. Some of the expanded functionality includes CO2
The acquisition will likely add more than 200 carriers in Europe and Asia to Descartes’ network. The company’s Logistics Technology Platform currently connects carriers to roughly 35,000 trading partners.
Art Mesher, Descartes' chairman and chief executive officer, noted in the company’s quarterly earnings call last week that acquisitions would be a key part of the company’s strategy for growth this year. - Geoff Whiting
