The continued rise of omni-channel logistics, developments in anticipatory logistics, and the development of crypto-payment are three emerging supply chain tools identified by DHL in its “Trend Radar 2014” report
With anticipatory logistics, DHL officials see a rise in firms using big data to address the needs of consumers, “in order to send a shipment even before the customer places an order,” according the integrator. Crypto payment is the idea behind universal payment systems that will allow fast, efficient cross-currency payments that might even be able to support non-traditional payment methods like mobile minutes or frequent flyer miles.
The overview will serve as the basis for further research exploration, according to a press release.
"The logistics industry is undergoing rapid and profound changes", DHL’s Matthias Heutger, senior vice president of strategy, marketing and development, said in a statement. "With the Logistics Trend Radar, we created a dynamic tool, inspiring us and others to derive innovative solutions in the world of logistics."
