All-cargo carrier Cargolux said Monday it has started a second 747-8 freighter service from Hong Kong to Vienna, Austria, in response to customer demand.
Service to Vienna is on Thursdays and Saturdays to support imports of high-tech products and textiles from China. Return flights are expected to carry healthcare products, heavy machinery, spare parts and other goods to Asia.
The new flights were added only two months after Cargolux began service from Hong Kong to Vienna, a large connection point for airlines. The original flight originates in Hanoi, Vietnam, with a stop in Hong Kong.
Cargolux said the expanded service to Vienna will reduce longer truck hauls from major industrial centers in Eastern Europe to its hub in Luxembourg.
