BIMCO, a trade association representing many of the world’s shipowners, has picked Angus R. Frew to succeed retiring Torben C. Skaanild as secretary general and chief executive officer later this year.
Frew is currently chief executive of the U.K. Chamber of Shipping. It’s expected Frew, who will relocate to Denmark, will start his appointment on Oct. 1. Skaanild will continue in a support role to the new secretary general, and the incoming president of BIMCO, for six months thereafter, the association said.
Prior to his appointment at the U.K. Chamber of Shipping in 2009. Frew was president and CEO of GE SeaCo SRL, a container leasing business, and senior vice president of the container division at Sea Containers Ltd.
In addition, BIMCO said its contractual and legal affairs will continue to be headed by Deputy Secretary General Søren Larsen, with technical and operational affairs led by Deputy Secretary General Lars Robert Pedersen and shipping policy and economics affairs led by newly appointed Deputy Secretary General Michael Lund. Anders Fagerberg will continue to head BIMCO’s publication and systems activities, and Chief Financial Officer Rodica Donsmark will continue to lead administrative and financial functions.
