APL discontinues 53-foot boxes in transpacific

Liner carrier APL has discontinued offering ocean service in the transpacific using 53-foot containers. "The economics just didn't work," said Gene Seroka, chief executive officer of APL Americas. "We'll keep watching it, but at this time it's just not a viable option." He said it was difficult to find exports to match inbound cargo arriving in the containers.
