U.S. steel exports continued rising for the second month in a row in April, with 1.08 million net tons, the American Institute for International Steel said Monday.
AIIS said April exports were up 3.7 percent compared to April 2013, and were at the highest level since October.
Exports to Canada dropped slightly, while exports to Mexico rose 6.9 percent to 368,215 net tons. Also, exports to European Union members jumped 16.4 percent to 34,942 net tons.
Despite two months of growth, AIIS said, total year-to-date exports are down 6.3 percent, or 3.99 million net tons. AIIS attributed the numbers to a harsh winter in the United States, which it said slowed down trade in January and February.
