Russell Bruner has been named the next president and chief executive officer of Maersk Line, Limited, (MLL) the U.S.-flag shipping arm of the A.P. Moller Maersk Group.
MLL's board elected him to succeed John F. Reinhart, who will step down on Jan. 31, 2014, to become the CEO and executive director of the Port of Virginia.
“Russ has the experience, values and vision to lead MLL into the future,” said Hal Gehman, the retired U.S. Navy admiral who is chairman of MLL. He noted that Bruner has been a member of the board of directors of MLL since 2010 and has "a strong understanding of the company, its strategy and customers. He is an intuitive leader and intelligent businessman, possessing the knowledge and qualities to be MLL’s next leader.”
Bruner joined Maersk in 1989 and has been the president and chief executive officer of Maersk since 2004. He also has been an executive vice president of the A.P. Moller - Maersk Group since 2006. Bruner has held various leadership positions in Maersk’s container businesses, both within the U.S. and internationally.
A native of Baltimore, Md., Bruner attended Bridgewater College in Virginia. He is a graduate of the University of Michigan Executive Program and Harvard Business School’s Advanced Management Program. Bruner serves on the Bridgewater College Board of Trustees and the University of Denver Intermodal Transportation Institute Board of Directors.
