The status of Miami Port Director Bill Johnson should come into better focus in two or three weeks after a local economic development organization announces the selection of its next leader.
The Beacon Council, Miami-Dade County's public-private economic development partnership, has narrowed its search for a new chief executive officer and expects to make a decision by mid-August after interviewing finalists, Interim President Robin Reiter told American Shipper.
The group hopes to have someone in place in September, she said.
Johnson indicated in late April that he would probably apply to head the Beacon Council. If tapped as the area's top corporate recruiter he would be replaced as port director by Juan Kuryla, who in early May turned down the Port of Jacksonville's offer to be executive director and remain as deputy director at the Port of Miami. - Eric Kulisch
