The parent company of American Airlines is meeting today, and some industry watchers believe the discussion will revolve around a proposed merger with US Airways.
Analysts at Dahlman, Rose & Co. expect a merger to be announced in the coming days.
"The AMR board is meeting today to discuss the merger with US Airways, and last weekend’s announcement that the two pilot groups agreed to a merged seniority list and contract lends additional credence to a potential merger," analysts wrote in a guidance report. "Even with the recent reports of the CEO of AMR stating a deal is weeks away, we believe there could be an announcement forthcoming shortly."
Yesterday, American announced that Craig Kreeger, a more than 25-year company veteran, had left his position as senior vice president of customer service for the chief executive position at Virgin Atlantic. Jonathan Snook has been promoted to fill Kreeger's vacated role. - Jon Ross
