Liner carrier Mediterranean Shipping Co. said Monday it will raise westbound transatlantic rates to Canada and Mexico on Oct. 17. The increase, $200 per 20-foot container and $250 per 40-foot container, is applicable to origins in northern Europe and the Mediterranean, and destinations on the East and West coasts of Canada and Mexico. The notice does not apply to U.S. destinations.

Maersk Line said this week it plans to raise rates on shipments from Northeast Asia to Australia. The increase is $250 per 20-foot container and $500 per 40-foot container, effective Sept. 15. The rate hike is applicable to origins in China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, Japan and Korea. In a separate note, Maersk said it has stop accepting 45-foot high-cube containers in any Mexican ports, as of Aug. 20.
